Jacob Burdette
Hello! My name is Jacob Burdette and I am currently a senior at Olmsted Falls High School. I will be attending Kent State University in the fall to major in aeronautics with a focus on Flight Technology, which is their professional pilot program. I have been fascinated by music and aviation my whole life. I have lived under the final approach for Cleveland Hopkins Airport for fifteen years and have never gotten bored of watching all types of planes fly over my head. In addition, I have been playing the trumpet for eight years. I have preformed at many venues all over the country such as Severance Hall, Universal Studios and Disney World. I am involved in my school’s Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, Pit Band, Marching Band, and I play in the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony Group 1. One of my dreams other than being a pilot is to march with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corp. I am excited for what the future holds for me in both music and flying!
Hello again everybody and welcome back to what will probably be my last blog post for a while. Before I start, I would just like to say thank you to everyone in FMA for all of the encouragement and to the board that selected me as a scholarship recipient in 2020. Since my last post, … Continue reading College Graduate, PC-12, Tailwheel Pilot!

As the title says, I soloed! I finally got to fly a plane by myself for the first time after 16 hours of training, and I felt invincible. I will never forget November 21, 2020. Hello again everyone! I’m back with another update about my flight training, college academics, and music. Since my last update, I have flown two more times. Hello Jacob, Congratulations on being a Solo recipient. You are the 2nd winner in this area. We must have a lot of musicians who want to be pilots or vs versa. I am happy for you. This is a good program, make the best of it. We are happy to see you and welcome aboard.
Welcome to FMA and congratulations on your scholarship! Excited for you to get started at Kent State. I’m also a graduate of a collegiate aviation program (WMU) and it was a great start to my aviation career. I’m a captain at Flexjet now, which is not too far from you. Feel free to reach out as you go through this process. Good luck! josh@flyingmusicians.org
Congratulations, Jacob! You’re starting down a path that will change your life forever. Once you get to that point, a solo XC from Kent State to KLHV would be a grand adventure (and would give me a chance to meet you and congratulate you in person.)
