In 2015 the Flying Musicians Association created a program whereby band directors nominate a junior or senior band member who excels and has a desire to fly.
Five outstanding finalists were selected from the nominees. Texas, Illinois, Georgia and Florida were well represented. The hardest part was awarding just one scholarship.
The winner of the inaugural FMA Solo Program scholarship is Drew Medina from Vero Beach, Florida. Drew will be starting his senior year at Vero Beach High School as Band captain under the direction of James M. Sammons.
I am honored to be one of the recipients of the 2018 Flying Musician solo scholarships. It is very humbling to be chosen from such an amazing group of fellow musician’s and aviation enthusiast. I hope everyone who was nominated continues to pursue their love and passion for flying. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated I wish you the best of luck.
